Ex-President Carter says China pressuring Nepal on Tibetans

Former US President Jimmy Carter urged the Nepali government not to accede to Chinese demands to prevent Tibetans from leaving China by harassing them at the Nepali border.

Although the government of Nepal used to hand Tibetan refugees over to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees so that they could be safely transported to India, Nepal has increasingly obeyed Beijing’s requests as it tries to boost trade relations in the aftermath of a decade-long civil war.
