A court in Jiangsu province sentenced Gu Yimin to 18 months in prison for "inciting subversion of the state" after he applied to hold a protest commemorating the 24th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre last June.
In addition to filing a permit application with local authorities, Gu posted a picture of the Tiananmen Square Massacre online. The court found Gu guilty of inciting subversion of the state despite the fact that he called off the protest after authorities warned him against proceeding with his plans.
